The City's first elections took place in November 2001. Winners took office in January 2002. The Mayor began a four-year term and the Council Members with the highest number of votes in each district held office for a four year term. Those having the second-highest number of votes held office for a two-year term.
This created staggered terms for Council Members in each District that continues today. So, Centennial Council Members have a four year term, but they are not all elected at the same time. We hold elections every two years for one of Council seats in each District.
