National Women’s Soccer League Comes to Centennial
Centennial is stepping onto the national stage with the arrival of Colorado's first professional women’s soccer team and the newest franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). In partnership with the City of Centennial and the Cherry Creek School District (CCSD), the team will build a state-of-the-art training facility and an interim 12,000-seat stadium at Centennial’s Potomac Park.
Public Input in Action
Potomac Park is a 44-acre site located at the intersection of S. Potomac St. and E. Fremont Ave. Previously zoned for industrial use, the land was purchased by the City of Centennial from the U.S. Postal Service and reimagined through a comprehensive community planning effort that began in 2012.
Residents, City leaders, athletic leagues and community organizations came together to create a vision for a park space that would:
- Seek a viable partnership to operate, maintain and program the park
- Serve Centennial residents
- Provide a regional amenity and destination
- Attract economic development for the City
Now, over a decade later, those goals are being realized through this innovative collaboration.
Training for Greatness
Denver NWSL’s new 20,000-square-foot training center will set a new standard in professional sports facilities. Designed by world-renowned architecture firm Populous, the center will feature:
- Eight soccer fields (including the temporary stadium field)
- Elite training and recovery spaces, including red-light therapy, float pod and cold/hot plunges
- Video analysis theater, player and family lounges and dedicated dining space
- Holistic, athlete-first design tailored to female professionals

An Interim Stadium with Long-Term Community Value
The interim 12,000-seat stadium, also designed by Populous, will host Denver NWSL’s inaugural 2026 and 2027 seasons. After that, it will be downsized to 4,000 seats and become a permanent home for CCSD athletics.
Thanks to shared investment between the team and CCSD — supported in part by the district’s 2024 voter-approved bond — this facility will:
- Provide internship and learning opportunities for students in sports, health and media
- Offer 500 complimentary tickets each season for CCSD families
- Include a $100,000 donation to the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation
- Deliver a lasting athletic hub for youth and high school sports
A Destination for All of Centennial
Mayor Stephanie Piko put it best:
“This investment in women’s sports will inspire athletes of all ages and strengthen our community’s commitment to excellence, teamwork and opportunity.”
As Centennial continues to grow, this project places the City at the heart of a national sports movement — one that uplifts women, inspires youth and strengthens community identity. Potomac Park’s transformation into a regional sports and recreation hub will bring increased visibility, economic opportunity and pride to the Centennial community for years to come.
