Community Meeting Requirements

Community meetings are required by the City’s Land Development Code (LDC) prior to submittal of certain development applications. The purpose of the community meeting is to inform the affected property owners and neighborhoods about the proposed development application and seek comments about its potential impacts on the area which could reasonably be mitigated. These meetings are intended to be forums in which the applicant and property owners work together in good faith. However, they are not required to generate complete consensus on all aspects of the applications, nor to supplant or add to the standards of this LDC.

Information About Municipal Disconnection

What is a municipal disconnection?

A property disconnection from a municipality is the process of removing a piece of land from a city’s boundaries and jurisdiction including service provision, taxing authority and zoning laws.

Why is Regis requesting a municipal disconnection?

In this case, Regis Jesuit High School is requesting to disconnect property from the City of Centennial so they may annex the property into the City of Aurora. Most of the Regis campus is already located within Aurora, disconnecting the property from Centennial will allow the campus to be under one less municipal jurisdiction. Regis is also considering the development of additional athletic facilities (beyond the existing tennis courts) at the property. Regis has shared with Centennial that having the athletic fields on the property within Aurora will provide Regis with cost savings on water tap fees and municipal services needed for additional athletic facilities.

Could Regis add additional athletic fields and lighting if the Property were to remain in Centennial?

Yes, the property is currently zoned Agriculture (AG) in the City of Centennial. The AG zone district allows for the development of athletic fields (outdoor recreation), including athletic field lighting.

What is the process for a municipal disconnection?

A municipal disconnection from Centennial requires a public hearing and approval by the City Council. It is expected that as a part of the municipal disconnection from Centennial, the City will require a disconnection agreement between Centennial and Regis that will specify what authority Centennial will retain over the use of the property following disconnection. A date has not been set for City Council consideration of this request. From there, the City of Aurora would have to agree to annex the property.

What is the City of Centennial looking for at this time?

Centennial is seeking neighborhood feedback on Regis’s request for municipal disconnection and the proposed additional athletic fields for the property to inform the City’s consideration of Regis’ municipal disconnection request.

How/Where can I learn more about this proposal?

An open house on this topic will be held in the Houlihan Conference Room on the Regis Jesuit High School Campus at 6380 S. Lewiston Way, Aurora, CO 80016 on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
