Overview

The City of Centennial is constructing a new dedicated underpass to improve trail connectivity and safety along the Lone Tree Creek Trail corridor at E. Arapahoe Rd. between S. Revere Pkwy. and S. Potomac St. The project includes construction of a concrete box culvert under E. Arapahoe Rd., which will be dedicated to bicyclists and pedestrians. It will allow trail users to travel beneath the roadway separate from vehicular traffic and eliminate the need to cross traffic at the existing S. Revere Pkwy. crosswalk.

Project Location: E. Arapahoe Rd. between S. Revere Pkwy. and S. Potomac St.

Project Timeline: Construction began Spring 2026 and will be complete in Spring 2027.

Traffic Impacts

E. Arapahoe Rd. Traffic Impacts

Traffic lanes on E. Arapahoe Rd. have shifted to the south as construction continues on the Lone Tree Creek Trail underpass along the north side of the roadway. Crews will begin excavation activities and fiber optic work in the coming week. Motorists can expect the following travel impacts. 

Daily Traffic Impacts

Monday through Friday:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
    • Single eastbound lane closure on E. Arapahoe Rd. from S. Peoria St. to S. Potomac St.
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Single westbound lane closure on E. Arapahoe Rd. from S. Potomac St. to S. Peoria St.

Long-Term Travel Impacts

The following impacts will remain in place 24/7.

  • All left-turn movements at the intersection of E. Arapahoe Rd. and S. Revere Pkwy. are restricted. Additional restrictions to north- and southbound through-travel across E. Arapahoe Rd. are in effect. Only right-turn movements will be permitted. Motorists are encouraged to use S. Peoria St. or S. Potomac St. as alternate routes. See maps below for additional details.
  • Lanes are narrowed to a 10-ft width.
  • At least three lanes on E. Arapahoe Rd. remain open in each direction during peak travel times.
  • Speeds are reduced to 45 mph in the construction zone.
  • The sidewalk along the north side of E. Arapahoe Rd. and the northeast crosswalks at S. Revere Pkwy. are closed. The south and west crosswalk approaches at the intersection remain open. Pedestrians will be detoured through Centennial Center Park to Peak View St. to navigate around the sidewalk and crosswalk closures. Please follow all posted detour signage.  
  • Pedestrians, cyclists and visitors to Centennial Center Park are asked to stay a safe distance from the active construction zone.
  • The north- and southbound S. Revere Pkwy. & E. Arapahoe Rd. bus route has been changed. Bus riders are encouraged to check the Route 153 Service Alert for RTD for up-to-date schedules and bus stop changes throughout the duration of the project.
  • Visit COTrip.org for real-time road conditions and lane closure information. All schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.

E. Arapahoe Rd. and Revere Pkwy. Detour Maps

Only right turn movements will be allowed at the intersection of E. Arapahoe Rd. and Revere Pkwy. through the duration of the project.

Motorists are encouraged to use S. Peoria St. and S. Potomac St. as alternate north/south travel routes and E. Peakview Ave. and E. Briarwood Ave. for east/west travel routes and business access.

Project Phasing

Construction will be completed in three phases with traffic shifts on E. Arapahoe Rd. to allow crews to safely work behind Temporary Concrete Barriers. Dates are weather dependent and subject to change. 

Phase I – Summer 2026

  • E. Arapahoe Rd. traffic is shifted to the south. The sidewalk along westbound E. Arapahoe Rd. will be closed with a signed detour route.
  • Construction on the north side of E. Arapahoe Rd.: Work includes extending the existing culvert that carries Lone Tree Creek and beginning construction of the new concrete box culvert under westbound E. Arapahoe Rd., along with associated walls. 

Phase II – Fall 2026

  • Traffic will be shifted to the outside of eastbound and westbound E. Arapahoe Rd. The sidewalk along both directions of E. Arapahoe Rd. will remain open.
  • Construction in the middle of E. Arapahoe Rd.: Work includes continued construction of the new culvert under the left turn lanes on westbound E. Arapahoe Rd.  

Phase III – Winter 2026/Spring 2027

  • E. Arapahoe Rd. traffic will be shifted to the north. The sidewalk along eastbound E. Arapahoe Rd. will be closed with a signed detour route.
  • Construction on the south side of E. Arapahoe Rd.: Crews will complete the new concrete box culvert and connect the underpass to sidewalks/trail connections, and finish sidewalk work.

Project Benefits

Upon completion, the project will provide a dedicated underpass for bicyclists and pedestrians, improving safety and connectivity for Lone Tree Creek Trail users across E. Arapahoe Rd.
