Sales Tax and Licensing

Overview

The City of Centennial requires all active businesses in the City to apply for and obtain either a Retail Sales Tax License OR a Business Registration, depending on the nature of the business:

  1. Retail Sales Tax License – For businesses that sell goods or taxable services in the City and must collect sales tax.
  2. Business Registration – For businesses that do not sell goods or taxable services but have a physical location in the City.

Businesses only need one of these.

  • If a business sells goods or taxable services and collects sales tax, it will need to obtain a Retail Sales Tax License, and that automatically serves as a Business Registration.
  • If a business is not required to have a Retail Sales Tax License and has a physical location in Centennial, the business is required to obtain a Business Registration.

General Information:

  • The Retail Sales Tax License or Business Registration fee is $25.00.
  • Retail Sales Tax Licenses and Business Registrations are biennial (2-year), expiring December 31 of the succeeding calendar year.
  • Vendors with a Retail Sales Tax License are not required to also have a Business Registration.
