Ordinances, Resolutions & Public Hearings

Ordinances are acts of City Council establishing rules and regulations for the violation of which a penalty is imposed, and are required for such acts as authorizing the creation of new taxing authorities, creating or increasing franchise fees and taxes, and the borrowing of money.

Public Comment Instructions

Interested parties may file written comments with the City Clerk, or via mail at: 13133 E. Arapahoe Rd., Centennial, Colorado 80112. Written comments must be received prior to the published hearing date. Comments will be heard by City Council during the public hearings.

Ordinances 

Ordinances under consideration by the Centennial City Council are publicized in full on this website not less than three (3) days prior to the first reading and public hearing of the ordinance on the Legal Notices page. First reading of an ordinance may be by placement on the City Council’s Consent Agenda for such meeting. Second reading of an ordinance is considered at a meeting not earlier than six (6) days following the first reading of the ordinance. A public hearing, at which comments from the public are heard, occurs with the second reading of the ordinance. The full text of the ordinance, with any amendments, is again publicized on this website within three (3) business days after final passage of the ordinance. Ordinances become effective thirty (30) days after final publication on the City’s website (Section 2-1-110).

Resolutions 

Resolutions state and memorialize opinions and decisions of City Council, and become effective upon passage. Resolutions normally do not require a public hearing. On occasions when resolutions are the subject of a public hearing, they will be included with the City Council Legal Notices page
