Election Information

The City of Centennial is divided into four Districts. Each District is represented by two City Council Members that serve four year staggered terms, along with the Mayor who is elected at-large. City elections are non-partisan, meaning affiliation with a political party is not required or relevant. Municipal elections are held on odd-numbered years are administered by the City Clerk, under the Centennial Home Rule Charter, Municipal Code of the City of Centennial and Colorado State Statutes.


District 2 Council Member Vacancy

The City of Centennial is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on City Council following the election of former Council Member Christine Sweetland as Mayor. The vacancy represents District 2, and the appointed Council Member will serve the remainder of the term, ending January 2028, in accordance with the City Charter.

Interested residents must be registered voters who have resided in District 2 for at least one year and meet all the eligibility requirements outlined in the City Charter. The City Council will appoint the selected applicant at a future public meeting.

The appointment process includes:

  • Applications due no later than 5 p.m. on January 30
  • Application review during the first week of February, with interviews scheduled shortly thereafter
  • Interviews conducted at a special City Council meeting, which will be streamed live for public viewing

The City encourages eligible residents who are interested in serving their community and contributing to Centennial’s governance to apply. A virtual informational meeting is scheduled for January 21 at 6 p.m. for residents who would like to learn more about the role and ask questions.

Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on January 30, 2026.
