Round 2 Centennial CARES Grants Available

The City of Centennial remains committed to helping our small business community, impacted by COVID-19. Therefore the City, partnership with Arapahoe County has allocated $2 million to provide a second round of Centennial CARES: Small Business Grants. The City will begin accepting applications today, Monday, October 12 through November 12, dependent on grant requests. Grants are available to commercial and home-based businesses.

The grant application can be found here. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received.

“The City wants to continue to do what we can to assist our businesses as we all navigate through this unpredictable time. This second round of business grants is available to more businesses than the initial grant program and allows those that have already received funding to apply again in hopes of providing even more support,” says Centennial Mayor Stephanie Piko. “Successful local businesses are vital to the health and well-being of our community and Centennial is hopeful these grants provide some financial support to our business community.”

Please note: Businesses that previously received Centennial CARES: Small Business Grants may be eligible to receive this round of grants as well. Also, businesses who did not receive an initial grant may be eligible this round as the eligibility criteria has changed. Additional information is below. Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have been in operation, with a physical presence in Centennial prior to pandemic (approximately March 16, 2020)
  • Nonprofit applicants must hold a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6), or 501(c)(7) status and have a Certificate of Good Standing from the Colorado Secretary of State
  • Applicant must obtain a Centennial Business Registration/Sales Tax License prior to issuance of Round 2 grant if they do not already have one
  • Applicant is in good standing with the City of Centennial (tax returns, code violations, etc.)
  • 1-100 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions prior to COVID-19 pandemic
  • Applicant has been impacted due to the Public Health Orders related to the COVID-19 public health crisis
  • Applicant can provide an estimate of gross revenue loss greater than or equal to Round 2 grant amount and other CARES Act-related grants

The following list of business types are not eligible:

  • National chains (exception: locally owned franchises may qualify)
  • Publicly-traded companies
  • Businesses deriving more than one-third of gross annual revenue from legal gambling activities
  • Businesses engaged in any illegal activity
  • Marijuana (medical and recreational)
  • Sexually-oriented businesses
  • Religious organizations
  • Political organizations

Prohibited uses of funds:

  • Any expense not be considered an eligible business expense by IRS rules (IRS Publication 535)
  • Wages to any member of owner’s family who is not a bona fide employee
  • Charitable contributions
  • Political contributions
  • Draw or salary to owner that exceeded the amount they were paid on a weekly or monthly basis for the same period last year
  • Pay down or pay off debt by more than required in underlying debt instrument
  • Expenses that were previously paid for using Federal Small Business Administration (SBA) Payroll Protection Program (PPP) or Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Funds
  • Franchise or royalty fees
