City Seeks Citizen Voting Member for the Centennial Fiber Commission
Published on November 12, 2020
The City of Centennial seeks to appoint a qualified citizen voting member to serve on the Fiber Commission. The Fiber Commission was established in order to oversee Centennial FiberWorks, a program to implement the City’s fiber backbone. This backbone connects and completes the City’s underground fiber infrastructure, connecting to key City sites and other community anchor institutions, and allows for private broadband providers to lease fiber to connect customers. The citizen voting member must be a resident of the City and will be appointed at-large from the Council Districts of the City. In order to be considered for appointment, citizen voting member applicants should:
- Have expertise in a field relevant or associated with the purposes and goals of Centennial FiberWorks and the Commission;
- Demonstrate commitment and ability to attend Commission meetings once a month, periodic Council meetings and other occasional community meetings;
- Be clear of conflicts or potential conflicts of interest or appearance of impropriety on Commission actions; and
- Convey purpose and motivation for seeking appointment to the Commission.
The selection committee will consist of the three Council Members currently serving on the Fiber Commission, the Fiber General Manager or designee, and the staff liaison. The selection committee will send its recommendation to the City Council, which will appoint the citizen voting member by a majority vote. Citizen voting members will serve a term of two years and no appointee may serve for more than a total of eight years.
Citizen voting members are entitled to a meeting stipend for their time commitment, which includes monthly meetings and review of information and agendas prepared by staff.
The submission of this application to the City of Centennial Fiber Commission does not guarantee an interview. Each submitted application will be evaluated based on individual merit. Instructions regarding the interview process will be sent to qualified applicants who have been selected.
The deadline to submit a completed application is 11:59 p.m. November 24, 2020. Please submit the application online using this form.
