The timeline below reflects a list of events in chronological order which are related to the Jones District.

  • Glenn Jones establishes Jones International University (1993-2015) - This land would later become the Jones District.
  • City of Centennial incorporated in 2001. Learn more about the history of Centennial.
2013 graphic
  • Jones District Regulating Plan approved. (October 2013)
  • Jones District Development Agreement - A development agreement between the City of Centennial and Opus Development was approved.

  • Jones District Sign Design Program adopted. (March 2014)
2015 graphic
  • Dry Creek RTD Station: Kiss and Ride Site Plan approved - Approval of this site plan created a dedicated vehicular drop off area for the Dry Creek Light Rail Station citizens to begin participating in the Kiss and Ride program. (April 2015)
  • Jones District Regulating Plan: Amendment #1 - The amendment modified building typologies, locations of retail, sidewalk width, street network and frontage type locations. (May 2015)
  • Jones District Development Agreement: Amendment #1 - The amendment added flexibility to the residential square footage calculation. (June 2015)
  • Jones District Parcel 10, The Glenn Multi-Family Site Plan and Plat - A plan was submitted to the City for 306 dwelling units. (December 2015)

  • The Former Jones international University building was demolished. (October 2017)

  • Urban Center Zone District LDC Amendments - Amended UC Zone District Standards. (August 2019)
  • Jones District Regulating Plan: Amendment #2 - The amendment increased square footage from 2 to 4 million, increased residential dwelling unit allotments, and designated public plaza. (December 2019)
  • Jones District Development Agreement: Amendment #1 - Approval of this site plan created a dedicated vehicular drop off area for the Dry Creek Light Rail Station citizens to begin participating in the Kiss and Ride program. (December 2019)

  • Jones Metro District Formation - The Jones Metropolitan District #1-5 is formed to allow for the construction of roadway and pedestrian improvements, and utilities within the district. (February 2020)
  • Jones District Roadway Construction Documents - Construction documents were submitted to the City and construction began for curb to curb streets, temporary asphalt sidewalks adjacent to undeveloped streets and wet and dry utilities. (September 2020)
  • Jones District Final Plat and Right-of-Way (ROW) Dedication - The final plat and right-of-way dedication were completed. (October 2020)
  • Jones District Parcel 8, Embrey Multi-Family - Proposed plans for the Embrey Multi-Family project with 305 dwelling units. (review completed April 2021)
  • Jones District Parcel 6/7, Embrey Multi-Family - Proposed plans for the Embrey Multi-Family project with 304 dwelling units. (review completed July 2021)
  • Ikea Northern Entrance Reconfiguration - Proposed plans to allow for rerouted truck access for Ikea trucks. (under review)

  • Jones District Regulating Plan, Amendment #3 - This allows for temporary asphalt sidewalks to be constructed along the streets adjacent to only undeveloped parcels and allows for parking supply within the district to meet demand. (January 2021)
  • Jones District Amenity Zone Planning - In progress by the Jones District Community Authority Board.
  • Jones District Centennial Fiber Line Loop - Fiber lines are proposed to be routed through the Jones District.
  • Dry Creek Next Generation Infrastructure Study - Study focusing on smart infrastructure implementation in Jones District and Citywide.
  • Groundbreaking and Rebranding Ceremony - a Groundbreaking and Rebranding Ceremony was held, renaming the project as The District-Centennial.
  • Public Infrastructure – Utilities, streets and temporary sidewalk infrastructure construction completed.

  • Parcel 2 Office – Proposed plans for 5-story and 12-story office buildings (390,000 sf) with amenity deck, ground floor retail and structured parking. (under review)
  • Parcels 4 & 5 Office – Proposed plans for 5-story and 8-story office buildings (400,000 sf) with elevated terraces, ground floor retail and structured parking. (under review)
  • Parcel 12 Pedestrian Plaza – Proposed plans for pedestrian plaza and promenade, featuring raised planters and a cycle track. (under review)
  • Jones District Parcel 8, Embrey Multi-Family – Under construction.
  • Jones District Parcel 6/7, Embrey Multi-Family – Under construction.
  • Jones District Sign Design Program – Plans submitted to amend the existing Sign Design Program. (August 2022)
  • Jones District Fiber Line Loop – Construction completed. (October 2022)
  • Rooftop Greenhouses LDC Amendment – Amended UC zone district standards to allow Rooftop Greenhouses. (December 2022)

  • Jones District Sign Design Program - Plans approved amending the existing Sign Design Program. (April 2023)
  • Traffic Signal at S. Chester St. and E. Jones Ave. - Construction completed. (April 2023)
