Round 2 - Centennial CARES: Small Business Grants


UPDATE: The City is accepting applications for Round 2 of the Centennial CARES: Small Business Grants.

We encourage businesses to prepare for the application process by reviewing the eligibility and submittal information below.

Important: A Centennial Business Registration/Sales Tax License will be required to receive a Round 2 grant. Apply for a license here.

The Centennial CARES: Small Business Grants are intended to help small businesses in Centennial who have lost revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In partnership with Arapahoe County, Centennial’s City Council has directed $4.5 million of City funding to be used to support Round 2 of our small business grant program. Businesses who received Business Interruption Grants in Round 1 are eligible to apply for Round 2 grants.

Businesses who did not receive a Round 1 Business Interruption Grant may be eligible for the Round 1 amount in addition to the Round 2 amount as shown below.

The grant amount a business receives cannot exceed the Gross Revenue Loss estimated by the business from March 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020.

Grant Information

Business Interruption Grant

Business Interruption Grants will be provided to eligible businesses for business operation expenses including, but not limited to, lease/mortgage, payroll, inventory, and supplies/equipment necessary to operate the business (may include personal protective equipment).

Note: Grants received from Centennial CARES: Small Business Grant programs are federal funds from the CARES Act: Coronavirus Relief Fund and considered taxable income by the Department of Treasury. For more information visit

Eligibility and Prohibited Use of Funds

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have been in operation, with a physical presence in Centennial prior to pandemic (approximately March 16, 2020)
  • Nonprofit applicants must hold a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6), or 501(c)(7) status and have a Certificate of Good Standing from the Colorado Secretary of State
  • Applicant must obtain a Centennial Business Registration/Sales Tax License prior to issuance of Round 2 grant if they do not already have one
  • Applicant is in good standing with the City of Centennial (tax returns, code violations, etc.)
  • 1-100 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions prior to COVID-19 pandemic
  • Applicant has been impacted due to the Public Health Orders related to the COVID-19 public health crisis
  • Applicant can provide an estimate of gross revenue loss greater than or equal to Round 2 grant amount and other CARES Act-related grants

The following list of business types are not eligible:

  • National chains (exception: locally owned franchises may qualify)
  • Publicly-traded companies
  • Businesses deriving more than one-third of gross annual revenue from legal gambling activities
  • Businesses engaged in any illegal activity
  • Marijuana (medical and recreational)
  • Sexually-oriented businesses
  • Religious organizations
  • Political organizations

Prohibited uses of funds:

  • Any expense not be considered an eligible business expense by IRS rules (IRS Publication 535)
  • Wages to any member of owner’s family who is not a bona fide employee
  • Charitable contributions
  • Political contributions
  • Draw or salary to owner that exceeded the amount they were paid on a weekly or monthly basis for the same period last year
  • Pay down or pay off debt by more than required in underlying debt instrument
  • Expenses that were previously paid for using Federal Small Business Administration (SBA) Payroll Protection Program (PPP) or Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Funds
  • Franchise or royalty fees

Required Information and Documents

Documents required to be uploaded with application:

  • Completed and signed W-9 form (All Applicants)
  • Proof of 501(c) status (Nonprofits only)
  • IRS Form 990 or N990 (Nonprofits only)

Information needed to complete application:

  • Estimate of gross revenue loss from March 1, 2020-December 31, 2020 (a dollar amount estimate of gross revenue loss based on projected revenues compared to actual revenues)
  • Amount of pandemic-related grants (do not include loans or Round 2 amount) received from Centennial, Arapahoe County, State of Colorado (Energize Colorado Gap Fund)
  • Centennial Business Registration/Sales Tax License number (ex. CEN-000123)
