City Accepting Applications for Centennial Teen Court Judges | Deadline Extended

2:29 PM
 with 0 Comments,,,

The City of Centennial is currently accepting applications to serve on the City’s Teen Court panels.  Teen Court is a community-based juvenile intervention/prevention program offering an alternative to a regular hearing. The program accepts juvenile offenders with first time tobacco, fireworks and curfew charges.

Offenders are seen by trained youth volunteers who act as peer mentors. Volunteers conduct peer panels with the offender before they determine an appropriate sentence. This process effectively holds the juvenile offender accountable for their actions and promotes long-term behavioral changes to enhance public safety.

The Youth Commission is looking to train ten Centennial junior and senior volunteers who are interested in the legal process as well as restorative justice practices. Those selected will serve as magistrates on Teen Court panels and hand down sentences to their peers.

Fill out an application here or obtain one from the Teen Court Coordinator, Holly Watt,  The deadline for applying is Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 5 p.m.
