The City of Centennial requires all businesses located in the City to obtain a Retail Sales Tax License or a Business Registration, depending on the nature of the business.
- The Retail Sales Tax License or Business Registration fee is $25.00
- Retail Sales Tax Licenses and Business Registrations are biennial (2-year), expiring December 31 of the succeeding calendar year.
- Vendors with a Retail Sales Tax License are not required to also have a Business Registration.

Retail Sales Tax License
Businesses and individuals engaged in selling taxable products and/or services in the City of Centennial are required to have a City of Centennial Retail Sales Tax License. A separate Retail Sales Tax License is required for each physical location where a retailer operates a retail business within the City. The requirement to obtain a sales tax license extends to businesses with no physical location in the City but are "Engaged in Business" as defined in the Centennial Municipal Code.
Businesses that have a physical location in the City but do not sell taxable products or services at retail are not required to have a Retail Sales Tax License but are required to have a Business Registration. Please refer to the Business Registration information below.
Businesses with a physical location in the City of Centennial who are not required to have a Retail Sales Tax License are required to have a Business Registration. Examples of these service only businesses include architectural or engineering firms, attorneys, banks, churches, counselors, accountants, daycare providers, physicians, realtors and seamstresses. A Business Registration is not required for a service only business that operates in the City and does not have a physical business location within the City.
Home based businesses are required to register with the City and comply with the Home Occupation Regulations set forth in the City's Land Development Code (LDC) in Section 0-2-404 at the time of registration.
Special Sales Event License
The City requires a License for Special Sales Events taking place in the City. A Special Sales event is an occasion in which three or more vendors gather in one location and sell items for a limited period of time, not to exceed seven consecutive days. An example of a Special Sales Event is an art or craft fair. The Special Sales Event License costs $10.00 and must be issued before the event. Learn more about Special Sales Events.
